Sony Remembers To Make Money

Posted: July 26th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Sony have posted a much needed profit for his quarter. How much you ask? US$342 million (30 billion yen) or about 55.7 billion yen more then the last year. It is due to very aggressive cost-cutting.
It is incredible to see Sony recover, unfortunately if Move and 3D TV don’t have explosive growth, they might end up back in the same place. Fortunately the Playstation Move looks fantastic, and even though 3D is crap, it will be really cool with that virtual dual screen tech.

Sony Patent Kills Clunky Split Screen Gaming

Posted: July 23rd, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , | 1 Comment »

Is there anything more annoying then split screen gaming? You have a friend over to play some games, and all of a sudden your massive screen is cut in half and neither of you can see any of the action. Sony may have an awesome solution to this problem.
The patent basically turns your 3D screen into two 2D screen (when special glasses are used). By creating a 50/60 hz refresh on odds and the same on evens, Sony have created the illusion of having two different images visible on the same TV.
Not only will it work for gaming, you could also watch two different videos at once, ending the age old TV bickering of who controls the remote in the relationship (it should always be the man BTW). As an added bonus the glasses will also come with their own set of headphones, for split audio.
Other then the part where you have to wear stupid looking glasses and have a super expensive 3D television, I am starting to get excited by local multi player gaming again!

Holy Shit The 3DS Is Real!

Posted: June 16th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Gaming | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

The Nintendo 3DS has been rumored for a couple of months, but at E3 2010 it has become really real. It has the rumored 3D screen that doesn’t require glasses, what looks like a joystick and graphics that is supposedly around Wii quality.
The 3DS has a similar form factor to the DS, but with a much larger top screen (3.5inch). It features a touch pad down the bottom, and now features a built-in gyroscope and motion sensor for another form of game control.
It will also be able to record and take 3D photos with the dual cameras on the outside of the case, plus as an added bonus it will be able to play back 3D movies (whether there will be a media store or not is still up in the air).
No pricing or release date has been set, but seeing as it is now out in the open, it can’t be that far away.

Intel Crappy WiDi Coming To More Laptops

Posted: June 1st, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Intel have pressed released that they will have graphics chips that will support 3D graphics by the American Summer. They also said that more then 30 laptops will come out with Intel’s WiDi (Wireless Display) technology built in.
That all sounds really terrific Intel, except for the part about how your graphics cards can’t play 3D games, yet you expect them to render physical 3D objects? Also, every real review (the ones done by people not journalists) of WiDi has been that it doesn’t work all that well. Actually people go as far as saying what is the point at all?
Why write an article that just bad mouths a technology that I don’t care about? Partly because it is a quiet day for tech news and partly because I don’t people throwing away their precious money on a technology that is pointless. Hopefully Intel can do it, but I doubt it.

3D Games Come Early In Japan

Posted: June 1st, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Gaming | Tags: , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Sony released a patch for the PS3 last month that removed OtherOS but added the ability to have 3D games. Unfortunately at the time there were no 3D games so everyone focused on the negative (the loss of OtherOS). This is about to change in Japan with 3D games coming this month.
Bravia promotion. Super Stardust HD, Pain, and WipeOut HD will all receive a 3D patch on the 10th of June, and as a bonus they will cost you money! So not only did you just fork out way to much for a 3D TV, but you got to now pay a little bit extra for those 3D games that you already brought!
