iPhone OS4 will finally have the ability to tether without jailbreaking orĀ any other magical hackery. Ahead of Apple; AT&T, an American telco, have announced new data plans with an option to allow tethering of mobile phone to your computer. The keyword is ‘option’ as it will cost you $20 for the luxury. The data plans range from $15 for 200MB up to 2GB for $25 with excess charges costing $15 for every 200MB on the 200MB plan and $10 per GB on the 2GB plan.
That means if you haven’t already signed up for the unlimited data plan for your iPad, go do it quickly. That is also feeling the pinch down to 2gb.
The biggest problem with this is it costs money to tether. Since when is a 1kb different, whether it goes through your mobile or through your computer. It should weigh the same, but it seems that AT&T aren’t quite happy ripping you off blind with data charges, they also want to charge you more to use the data you have already paid for.
Thank you AT&T, you have given me yet another reason to keep my Blackberry and use Tetherberry.

Lately it seems a lot of people are attempting to bring down the juggernaut that is Google. Starting with Apples move to rid all things Google from the iPhone and then the recent push for antitrust lawsuits (that are possiblity coming from Microsoft). Now it seems Android, its very own OS, is kicking Google out for Yahoo.
It is only AT&T doing it at the moment, but how interesting it is. Spend millions to make an OS that is pretty much free, hoping and dreaming that one day you will make money from the services rendered on the device, and then someone comes along and strips those stinking services out.
This is AT&T’s first Android handset (Motorola Backflip), so after it is a gigantic flop, they may just realise that people only buy Android because of the included Google apps. Then, even if AT&T are too arrogant to do it, some enterprising hacker will re-add the Google goodness.

If you thought Apple were ahead of their time with the iPhone, wait to you check out the new Deep Red model. It is the same as the old, except it is this magical colour called ‘Deep Red’. No pictures as yet, but there will be apparently 2 models on offer, a 4GB (yes, they are re-releasing it) and a 8GB. It should be available from AT&T before Christmas this year (and probably everywhere else a little after that).
