Android Slapped On Touch Diamond2

Posted: July 7th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

It won’t be long till Android can be installed on everything, but until then the HTC Touch Diamond2 is the latest device to get modded. The modders managed to put the popular Android 2.1 on the hardware without many issues. You can make calls and browse the web, though the performance hasn’t been optimized for the 528mhz Quadcomm processor.
It is definitely great that modders have managed to not just run a new OS on an old piece of hardware, but to actually make it function correctly is amazing. While the mod is amazing, I won’t be impressed until my Nokia 5110 from the 90′s runs Android.

Hummingbird Eats Snapdragon In Quake 2

Posted: July 6th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

It seems that Samsungs flagship Hummingbird processor eats Quadcomm’s Snapdragon, at least at OpenGL. People over at Android Community got bored and pitted the HTC Desire in all its Snapdragon glory against the larger and more expensive Samsung Galaxy S. Hummingbird literally hums along, running it faster then my PC at the time ever did.  The Snapdragon, on the other hand, ran horribly.
This is definitely an eye opener for anyone considering what the difference is between 1GHz and 1GHz. Jump over to Gizmodo for a bunch of video’s (including one of the Samsung running Quake 3).

Droid Holds Android Crown

Posted: July 3rd, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Motorola has done an incredible job of coming back from certain death to now ruling the Android handset market. AdMob have run a review of the 12+ million handsets in its database and the Motorola Droid is king of the pile with a 21% market share. Together HTC and Motorola control 83% of the market, which is mostly made up of US and China residents.
With the Droid 2 coming soon, and the Droid X now available, it is a great opportunity for Motorola to regain much needed market share. Congratulations Motorola for staying relevant for a little bit longer.

HTC HD3 Leak To Good To Be True

Posted: July 2nd, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , , , | 1 Comment »

The leaked spec’s for the rumoured HTC HD3 are so good that they are impossible for me to believe. Start with an almost borderless 4.5-inch AMOLED screen (800×1280), 1.5Ghz Snapdragon, 1 GB of memory, HDMI, 8mp dual flash camera, 3G/4G support and the ability to cure cancer/erectile dysfunction.
With spec’s like those it would be a massive leap over the current wish-wash of superphones. It looks like I will definitely be looking forward to the Windows Mobile 7 release after all.

Gizmodo Review Killer HTC Evo 4G

Posted: June 4th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Transport | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

One of the most anticipated smartphones of the last couple of months has been the HTC Evo 4G. It has caused many Linux geek wet dreams, and today Gizmodo have gotten their dirty hands on a unit to play with.

Basically they were happy with the specs but surprised on how big it is. They liked the mobile network, but didn’t like the battery life.  If you want the most technology advanced phone on the market and live in an area where you can take complete advantage of the 4G network, then look no further. Otherwise wait for the iPhone 4G (thats what Gizmodo was thinking, I know it!).

Froyo Delious On Evo 4G

Posted: May 31st, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

The latest Android device to get the Froyo upgrade seems to be the one that would enjoy it the most. The device in question is the HTC Evo 4G, the monster handset that eats other smartphones for desert (it prefers feature phones for the other meals, because they are leaner).
Richard Ross from over at the XDA forums showed a video of it running, and the guys over at The Gadgets are working on a how to so that you too can run the Flash ready OS on your Evo.

Gizmodo Review HTC HD Mini, Find It Lacking

Posted: April 14th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

The guys at Gizmodo have gotten their greasy hands on a HTC HD Mini and given it a quick and reasonably thorough review. What did they like? Hardware is up to the usual HTC high standard (please buy Palm and make their hardware good!) but as usual Windows Mobile 6.5.3 feels as old as it is. Ultimately, it would be like recommending a 1st Gen iPhone when you know there won’t be any updates coming to it any more.
Something to remember is that while it has Mini in its title the HD Mini is anything but. With a 3.2 inch screen, it would be similar size to a Blackberry Storm (3.25 inch). If you are still interested in that size and like the ability to install applications of your choosing, then jump over and check out the review.

Review Round Up Day At Technie

Posted: October 16th, 2007 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Misc | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

RoundupI like to give you guys a heads up on reviews, especially seeing I recommend reading even the worst of reviews before buying any new toy. Below is a list of all the reviews I have stock piled this week, with a exert from each.

- First up we have the Samsung YP-T10 Review by the guys over at AnythingButiPod. They believed “the T10 is a good player with a really nice line up of features” and “may not be for everyone”. Not bad for a Nano clone.

- Mobility Site did a massive, gigantic, monstrous review of the interesting HTC Advantage X7501. There are a ton of images and the conclusion they came to was “for business users wanting a powerful mobile device for staying connected with the office and still be able to maintain phone connectivity, or mobile tech enthusiasts wanting a top-of-the-line Windows Mobile device, this would be an excellent unit”. I still prefer a true UMPC.

- Pocketables have done a great review on the new OQO Model 02, which is a tiny little UMPC. They said “the Model 02 is an amazing upgrade to previous models and definitely steps up and delivers on all of its pre-release promises” and only really didn’t like the fact that there was no stylus included in the non Windows XP Tablet edition models and the crappy battery life. The article may contain trace amounts of poetry.

- AnythingButiPod did it again with a great review of the Archos 605 Wi-Fi. They said “605 could be ‘the ultimate PMP’, but it needs a complete overhaul of the interface, making it more usable to the average consumer” and “definitely much less user friendly than what is on the market, but that said, it will make a very nice match for the portable video enthusiast”. Sounds like I’m waiting for the next generation.

- AnythingButiPod have too much time on their hands and have reviewed the SanDisk Clip, which is like a Shuffle, but with a little screen. They liked it saying “its price of $40 and $60 MSRP I can easily recommend this to beginners as well as seasoned MP3 player users as a spare” and “the Clip has found a permanent home in my gearbag”. What happened to the all rounder?

- Lastly we have a review of the Fujifilm’s FinePix S8000FD digital camera by the grand people at Photography Blog. They said “the Finepix S8000fd represents Fujifilm’s best attempt yet to fuse the advantages of compact and DSLR cameras together, rivaling the latest entry-level DSLRs” and “the Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd is therefore both our current ultra-zoom camera of choice, and a viable alternative to a DSLR camera”. Fujifilm have done it again.

Remember to thank these guys for taking their time to write these amazing reviews for you guys and girls.
