Geohot Hacks PS3…Theoretically

Posted: June 25th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

Geohot, the man who has shown that he has matter of fact broken the PS3 security, has explained how it can be done at the last Nuit Du Hack. Unfortunately, he also said that he won’t be releasing custom firmware to the public anytime soon. The good news is, he has outlined how anyone out there with some brains can do it. Will we finally see PS3 firmware? Probably not for a while yet.

For videos of the genius himself, explaining his theory, jump over to PS3-Hacks.

DeathSpank Hits PSN/XBLA On July 13/14

Posted: June 23rd, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , , | No Comments »

DeathSpank is a co-op RPG for people who don’t play RPG’s. With a side of light comedy and a side of fast paced action, it is a game that makes casual gamers, like me, excited. I have mentioned the game before, but now we know a set in stone release date for both PSN and XBLA. Expect to see DeathSpank available from the only stores on July 13 for PSN and 14 for XBLA for a measly $US15.

Remote Play PS3 Without Sony Device

Posted: June 18th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

NTAuthority, a member of HaXNetwork, has patched the Sony Remote Play software so now any Windows 7 computer can remote control your PlayStation 3. It is compiled with Visual Studio 2008 and requires Visual C++ 2008 runtime, plus the firmware on your Playstation will have to be updated to at least 3.30 (or newer), to work. Otherwise, jump over to HaxNetwork and download the patch and remote away.
I would test the patch, but unfortunately both Windows 7 computers I own are Vaio’s, so sort of defeats the purpose.

PlayStation Plus For Premium People

Posted: June 16th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

Announced at E3 2010 is the new PlayStation Plus paid subscription service. For $50 a year (or $18 for 3 months) you get ‘hundreds of dollars of products’. Some of those include access to beta’s, free downloadable games and Qore. Also, you will get cross game chat (even if your friend doesn’t have a Plus subscription) and the ability to automatically download all the game patches to the games you own.
While it doesn’t sound all that compelling, seeing the PS3 already gives you so much for free, it is nice to see Sony attempting something different. Sony, what we really is unlimited movies and music for a once a year price.

Eagle-Eye Takes The Hard Out Of PS3 FPS

Posted: June 11th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

Eagle-Eye have created a sweet little box that allows you to use your PS3 the way it was suppose to be used. To play games with a keyboard and mouse.
The ugly little box will give you 1:1 PS3 nub controller to mouse support, and glow green at the same time. If you are excited about the possibility of not getting absolutely owned by a 12 year old while playing MW2, then this might be the gadget for you.

Congratulations Playstation 3

Posted: April 14th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Today is a good day for the Playstation division at Sony. They have been given some good news on the hardware and online front.
It seems that the PS3 has sold over 5 million consoles in Japan! That is like 4,999,000 more then Xbox360 (even that might be an exaggeration).
The other good news is that more PS3′s  live online then Xbox360 and Wii’s (78% PS3, 73% X360 and 54% Wii). This is partially due to the free nature of the service, but also because the online component of the PS3 has grown quite well over the last few firmware updates.
Congratulations Sony, and maybe, just maybe, the PS3 might end up making you money after all.

Sony 0 Hackers 1 With PS3 OtherOS

Posted: April 8th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

After Sony attempted to block the whole Linux on PS3 with their latest update, a pioneering hacker has come along and broken it open. Basically, he has achieved the new firmware version AND have the option to boot Linux.
Dubbed “3.21OO”, it can’t quite be downloaded yet, but it is good to hear that PS3 modders might finally be getting somewhere with the device. Lets hope cool things other then piracy come as a result.

The PS3 Hacked..Finally!

Posted: January 23rd, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , | 1 Comment »

It seems that the genius who broke open the iPhone (Geohot Verbatim),  has been spending time breaking open the PS3. How much time? He says it has taken him 5 weeks to finally break through the securities Sony had put in place.
The hack itself is just the ability to access the entire system memory, so it won’t play your downloaded games or allow home-brew as yet. His next step is to reverse engineer everything he has found, but this is definitely a step towards a completely open system for homebrewers and pirates.
3 years 2 months and 11 days it has taken, so you gotta give Sony some credit.

Play Copied PS3 Games Doable?

Posted: February 13th, 2008 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

Broken Ps3This is a break through that pirates worldwide will love to hear about. What is the news? There has been success in running backup Playstation 3 games on a “PS3 Test” development machine. The better news is, they were able to play games from internal and external (USB) HDD’s.
There are a few little things to remember before being able to do this of course. These include stripping the games of encryption, patching them, and remastering to get them to load. Not something many people without know how can do.
The good news for non-know-how’ers (I made it up, but I think it works) is there will surely be nice pirates out there who will happily place pre-hacked games on torrent sites (that will then be taken to court) for everyone to leech. It has taken over a year, but eventually the hackers always win.
