Amazon Is Either Doing Great Or Terrible?

Amazon have said that they are selling more electronics books then physical books. This is either great news for digital technology making leaps forward in the book market, or Amazon is selling less books because someone else is doing it better.
Additionally the Kindle is doing exceptionally well, with sales tripling after the slight price drop a few weeks ago. With the success of the iPad and the price drop of pretty much every ereader on the market, it makes a lot of sense that ebooks are really selling well. Lets face it, who doesn’t want to carry their entire book collection everywhere they go?

Kindle DX Refresh Is Grey

Amazon have announced a slight bump in their premium DX range of Kindle’s. The 9.7-inch device will now come in a masculine graphite, and feature a 50% better contrast. It will also come with a lower price at $US379 down from the original $US489 (that is a little close to iPad zone).
It is nice to see Amazon sticking to their guns, and keeping to the familiar E-Ink reader. If you don’t think an IPS panel is all that important the graphite Kindle DX will be available on the 7th of this month.

Cheaper Zune Pass Zoon

Microsoft have said they are considering lowering the cost of Zune Pass to better compete with Realnetworks and Apple. That means that on top of getting unlimited music and 10 unDRMed tracks a month, you also might get it for cheaper then the current $14.99 a month.
Last time I checked Apple don’t offer a subscription style service, unless of course Microsoft know something we don’t…. Anyway, if Zune Pass wants to convert more of the people who pirate their music instead of buying it, cheaper isn’t a bad place to start.

The Nokia N810 Just Became Cheaper

It doesn’t do much for most people, but for the people who hang around wireless access points like bacteria hang around my laundry basket, then this is good news. The Nokia N810 is now cheaper, and by quite a bit. $US90 has been shaved off the RRP of the device, probably in the light of the replacement model in the air (and pressure from all the MID news). The price drop should be available now, so what are you waiting for?

Xbox 360 Shreds Some Euro’s

You have probably heard it already, but the Xbox 360 has dropped by up to 80 Euros in Europe (derr). It is now cheaper then the Wii. Don’t expect those prices to live long though, because the rumoured 60GB Xbox is coming, and you can expect that to push the price up again.

Vista Sees Price Drop

Microsoft have officially dropped the price of some Vista packages. The highest price drop has been seen on Ultimate, which is now available for $US320, down from $US400. Does this mean you will buy it instead of downloading it from your favourite bittorrent site? Probably not.

Creative Says To Apple, Price Drop

If you didn’t hear, Apple have done the memory upgrade on the Touch and iPhone, making the already delicious devices more so. Remembering that Creative and a slew of other portable audio manufactures had already released their 32GB players, it makes sense that prices drops are bound to happen. The first device to feel the heat of Apples upgrades is the highly regarded Creative Zen 32GB PMP. The original price was $US329, and has now dropped down to $US299. Do they accept checks?

For Half Price Dev Kits Call Sony

I already talked about the price drop of PS3 dev kits last year. This year it seems the price drop will be repeated, this time for the PSP development kits. Wonder if this will cause an over due influx of PSP games?

HD-DVD Fight Back With Price Drop

Blu-Ray has now got the power of the studio’s behind them, so what do Toshiba and the power of the HD have left to fight back with? They have the power of price drop, with HD-DVD players now available for a neat $US129. Two players will see be affected by the price drop, which are the HD-A3 for $129.99 and the HD-A30 for $179.99.
The value is phenomenal for a nextgen player, and still keeps the free HD-DVD movies you get with it (7 movies all up). It is so cheap that Toshiba would almost be losing money on the player, just to get more market share from the fast growing BR format. It seems that the nextgen movie market, may go the same way as the nextgen console market, with companies losing money per player, to then gain the money back on disk sales.
Lets hope Sony follow suit and drop the price on the PS3. With the cost of making the PS3 down, it would be nice to see the consoles price drop.

PS3 Dev Kits Get Price Drop Too

Wouldn’t it be nice if there were awesome games for the PlayStation 3. Sure you have a few new ones that have been just released that aren’t so bad, but most of them are on all gaming platforms. Sony may have noticed that as well, with it now being cheaper to become a developer for the PS3, seeing there has been a price reduction on the cost of the Playstation 3 Reference Tool. If you are a developer, you can get yours now for $10,250 USD, half of what it use to cost! Lets hope that more game companies will adopt the PS3 and we will finally see some new and unique games for the system.
