The newest in the ever growing range of Sandisk MP3 players is the Fuze. It has been around for a few days now and has been given the review treatment by AnythingButiPod. What did they think? They said “across the board there are plenty of other improvements in screen quality, build quality, and sound quality” and “overall I’m pretty positive on it and can easily say it is the best Sansa to date”. Good news for Sandisk and great news for people who wanted a bigger Sansa Clip.

Though I have only read reviews and played with a couple of them, I have to say they did a damn good job of showing the top 10 MP3 players. It missed a couple of fan favourite players (such as the Sandisk Clip and Creative Stone), but it did include the ZEN, Zen V Plus, 3rd gen Nano, iPod Touch, Clix Gen 2, Sansa Connect, P2, Zune 8, Sansa View and Sansa E280. If you are looking for an MP3 player, it is definitely worth a glance.

Unfortunately I don’t get to do reviews here, I just can’t afford the toys. The people at PCMag aren’t as unfortunate. They have got their hands on the damn powerful VGN-SZ791N, and they really liked it. They gave it a hefty 4.5 out of 5 circles. It even earned the Editor’s Choice branding. Unfortunately, even the best can’t run Crysis, with a lousy frame-rate of 6 at 1024×768.

Hot Hardware have ran the brand spanking new Intel E8500 Core 2 Duo through its paces. They liked the chip, saying “If you’re a gamer, the Core 2 Duo E8500 will deliver better performance compared to a low-end quad-core.” The things they didn’t like were mainly price related, which is fair enough for a brand new processor from Intel. If you wanted a budget Core 2 Duo, look at the 6 series. If you want kick arse you can’t go past the E8500 (unless you can afford the E8650).

In a time long gone I heard about the Chumby and was interested. It would make it possible for a lazy arse like me to stay in bed all day, and still be able to get the latest news as well as a bunch of other things from my alarm clock. CNet have gone and reviewed the little alarm clock/computer hybrid and liked it enough to give it a 7.3. For under $200 you are getting a very configurable alarm clock, but make sure you talk to the partner before you introduce a new (non sexual) gadget to the bedroom.

I didn’t make the review, but the great people over at AnythingButiPod did. As a bonus it is a video review. If you are thinking about buying a Sansa View any time soon, I would definitely check it out.

If you didn’t know what a Maxdata Belinea s.book 1, it is basically the same deal as the Asus EeePC (if you don’t know what that is you have a lot of catching up to do). It is based on the Via Nanobook spec, so runs a slightly slower Via processor, but makes it up with a touch screen, Bluetooth, VOiP phone, Windows XP and 80GB HDD. It is also a hell of a lot more expensive then the EeePC, at £420 ($US835 currently).
The beautiful review was done by the lucky fellows at The Register. They liked it enough to give it 80%, but said “A highly portable, well-connected sub-notebook hindered only by a high price, low battery life and unnecessary add-ons…” It looks like the EeePC is still top of the UMPC pile, for this month at least.

It is time for the top of the range video cards to battle to the death for our viewing pleasure. This time it was about 20 difference websites. That is a lot of people with some down right impressive HD 3870X2 cards lying around. What do they all think? It’s damn fast and will take the seat at the head of the table, but with the upcoming 9800 from NVidia with a very similiar dual GPU setup, the 1 TeraFLOPS beast might not be there for long.

To quote from The Register review on the AMD Phenom 9500, “It seems that 2008 is not going to be a good year for AMD”. Doesn’t sound to positive for the already in trouble AMD does it?
The Register have done a fantastic and lengthy review on the Phenom 9500, and though they liked it they said “AMD’s Phenom squares up for a fight with the Intel Core 2 Quad, but comes out with the bruises…” It means that if you are an AMD fanboy, you might want to wait till AMD can refine this processor class a little. They did give it a decent 75% rating, but I got a feeling it is more out of pity, then the processor itself. At least the new ATI’s are good.

If you happen to be in the car market for a medium side sedan or hatch and haven’t really decided what you would like, the guys over at Australian Car Advice have done a fantastic review on the 2008 Subaru Impreza. They seems to have liked it giving the Impreza a 4 out of 5 steering wheels. They said “If you’re thinking about buying a new small-medium car, go drive the new Impreza range. You won’t be disappointed.” Seems impressive enough for me.
