Gizmodo Review HTC HD Mini, Find It Lacking

Posted: April 14th, 2010 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

The guys at Gizmodo have gotten their greasy hands on a HTC HD Mini and given it a quick and reasonably thorough review. What did they like? Hardware is up to the usual HTC high standard (please buy Palm and make their hardware good!) but as usual Windows Mobile 6.5.3 feels as old as it is. Ultimately, it would be like recommending a 1st Gen iPhone when you know there won’t be any updates coming to it any more.
Something to remember is that while it has Mini in its title the HD Mini is anything but. With a 3.2 inch screen, it would be similar size to a Blackberry Storm (3.25 inch). If you are still interested in that size and like the ability to install applications of your choosing, then jump over and check out the review.

Microsoft BlackBerry

No, Microsoft didn’t just make a good decision and buy BlackBerry to replace their not 1 but 2 failing mobile divisions (they bought Danger yaknow). Actually, now I think about it is more worrying then that.
It seems BlackBerry has decided that their hardware is horrible and to rejuvenate the  BlackBerry software for WinMo phones. Well, I might have lied a little about the hardware part (I have a 8800), but the software part is true.
If you need proof, you can now go to the  XDA-Developers website and attempt to get it working on your ugly slow Windows Mobile phone (don’t even bother denying it fan-boy). When you work out that you need a BIS or BES ISP account to actually use it and find out that the BlackBerry browser may actually be worse then the WinMo IE browser, you will probably give up and buy an iPhone.

I Like The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Posted: February 16th, 2008 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1To start I better introduce the upcoming phone from Sony Ericsson. The XPERIA X1 (so many X’s) is the first stab at a Windows Mobile by Sony Ericsson and from the look of it, it will be an impressive device. It has a 3-inch wide VGA (800 x 480) touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera (with LED flash), A2DP Bluetooth, aGPS, WiFi, 400mb internal memory and a microSD slot (no M2 slot?). It also features a QWERTY keyboard, which slides out in an ark fashion.
The reason I am attracted to such a device, is because I was a big Sony Clie fan. They were a damn good PDA, made solid and had great features. If the XPERIA series of mobiles can have the PDA functions the Clie had, with good wireless features and a build quality, this will definitely be a killer device. The only little thing that worries me, is this isn’t made by SE. The company who actually make this beautiful device, is no other then HTC, who seems to make most companies Windows Mobiles (they made the Treo’s you know).
No prices or reviews as yet. I will keep and eye open, and will get you an update as soon as there is one.

For the press release, slide over to Sony Ericsson.

Symbian Sell How Many Handsets!?

Posted: February 14th, 2008 | Author: Daniel Georges | Filed under: sideblog | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

iPhone and Windows Mobile might be the buzz words when it comes smartphones. It seems that both of those companies together couldn’t match the true leader in smartphone operating systems. I am talking about the all powerful Symbian OS. In 2007 alone they shipped 77.3 Million devices, and can be found on over 141 handsets. They also recorded a 50% growth over 2006! Who would have funked it?
